Tretinoin helps in the treatment of acne due to it's primarily ability to alter abnormal follicular keratinization. Comedones form in follicles with excess of keratinized. Tretinoin promotes the detachment of cornified cells and enhances the shedding of corneocytes from the follicle. Tretinoin increases the activity of mitotic and also increases the turnover rate of thin corneocytes. By this activity lesion of acne vulgaris is reduced.
